The Spotlight: Irene Van Celestine — Artist, Athlete, Medical Doctor
In “The Spotlight,” we feature brief interviews with the remarkable women who wear our jewelry.
Irene Van Celestine is an artist, athlete, and a medical doctor with a deep, expressive soul. She started oil painting in 2020 as a way of creative release.
She wears two Chestnut Tree Bracelet Cuffs in 14k Gold, and a Cypress Tree Pendant in 14k Gold.
What drew you to Elena’s jewelry?
I know Elena since our medical school days. She has original view on things, boundless imagination and an eye for beauty. Her jewelry designs with rough edges and angular shapes speak to me in a “badass girl on top of the world” way. But at the same time, I feel deeply grounded and connected to nature while donning her oversized bracelets and necklaces.
What occasions would you wear her jewelry to?
Most of Elena’s jewelry can be paired with any outfit, since every piece is a work of art. I would say, some pieces are calling to be worn by themselves, and by themselves only… (back to connection with the nature).
No occasion is required to wear Elena’s jewelry, wearing them is occasion on its own, but they can be quite a statement at elegant gatherings or formal events.
What is your favorite way to do self-care?
My self-care consists of staying active, watching what I put into my body for fuel, reflecting on the best parts of each day at the end of the day, and painting from the bottom of my heart.
What are you most proud of in your life?
I am most proud of being a mother of two, who have become happy adults.
What does it mean for you to stand out from the crowd?
Somehow, I could never mix with the crowd, which created a lot of angst in my younger ears.
In my current stage of life, I am happy that I can be myself without reservations — that I can face my entire depth and complexity with curiosity, and smile.
It feels amazing to be me — it would be a long story to explain why, but I want to wish everyone to get to their “amazing” in their life journey.
